Layoffs in sector accounted for 37 percent of all job cuts in September as the industry continues its slump.
About 37 percent of September job cuts were connected to the housing industry as that sector continues to languish in a deep slump, consulting firm Challenger, Gray & Christmas said Wednesday.
Housing-related layoffs totaled 26,465 in September, while overall layoffs for the month totaled 71,739, according to Challenger, Gray & Christmas. The consulting firm considers mortgage lenders, construction companies and real estate firms the industries that make up the housing-related sector.
